Tata Group to Transform Semiconductor Industry with Assam Plant
Tata Group's new semiconductor plant in Assam, approved by the Union Cabinet, aims to produce 4.83 crore chips per day using indigenous technology. Tata Group's semiconductor plant in Assam will revolutionize the industry by producing 4.83 crore chips daily using indigenously-developed technologies, announced Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran inaugurated the Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Morigaon district. The Union Cabinet approved the project on February 29, 2024.
The plant will manufacture chips for vehicles, including electric vehicles and essential communication and network infrastructure. Vaishnaw highlighted that the plant's establishment would create significant employment opportunities both upstream and downstream.
