The Union cabinet is expected to approve this week the creation of 12 new industrial cities across various states, similar to Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Dholera in Gujarat, to enhance domestic manufacturing, according to an official statement.

Two of these industrial cities will be established in Andhra Pradesh and one in Bihar, added the official. The government previously announced the development of 'plug and play' industrial parks in or near 100 cities, in collaboration with states and the private sector, to further bolster manufacturing capabilities.

According to DPIIT Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, eight of these cities are already in various stages of development. Trunk infrastructure for four cities—Dholera in Gujarat, Auric in Maharashtra, Vikram Udyogpuri in Madhya Pradesh, and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh—has already been established, with land plot allotments currently underway.

The establishment of the additional eight cities will bring the total number of such industrial zones to 20, aiming to significantly increase manufacturing's contribution to India's GDP and generate employment opportunities.
