Padres' Tatis Jr. leaves game against Nationals due to injury

San Diego Padres rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. departed Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals with a hamstring injury that occurred when he awkwardly did the splits. Tatis reached for a throw while covering second base in the 10th inning and was trying to keep his right foot on the bag. His left foot was sliding forward as he stretched to catch a high throw from pitcher Matt Wisler and he unexpectedly found himself in a full split with the right foot coming off the bag.
Tatis laid on his stomach as club trainers worked on him. He eventually got up and slowly walked off the field. Manager Andy Green didn't have much information to share after the 7-6, 11-inning loss to the Nationals.
"I think everybody saw what happened on the field," Green told reporters. "We're hoping he's OK. We'll find out in time. He seemed to be in pretty good spirits. We'll find out how severe or how mild it is. ... "Hamstrings are funny things. He may feel great tomorrow or it might take a long time. ... You don't have an answer right after they happen."
Tatis recorded his first career three-hit outing on Sunday and also stole his sixth base. The 20-year-old is batting .300 with six homers and 13 RBIs in 27 games.
