The Asian Hockey Federation, along with hosts Hockey India, has shifted all Women's Asian Champions Trophy matches to early afternoon to circumvent disruptions caused by a significant insect infestation prevalent under floodlights. The change was announced to prioritize the safety of players and spectators.
The revised schedule now features matches starting at 12.15 pm, 2.30 pm, and 4.45 pm, as opposed to the previous times of 3 pm, 5.15 pm, and 7.30 pm. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India, emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards at the new venue in Bihar, expressing the enthusiasm of the local community for the upcoming tournament.
The venue's proximity to paddy fields, which harbor large insect populations, prompted the adaptation. In response, the Bihar State Government has initiated robust environmental management strategies, including drone operations and fumigation, to secure optimal playing conditions. The tournament will feature round-robin matches among six teams, with semifinals set for November 11-20.
