Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, inaugurated the 'Run for Unity' event in New Delhi on Tuesday. The event marks the National Unity Day, aligning with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary on October 31. Distinguished guests, including Union Ministers and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, attended the assembly.
In his remarks, Shah noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the 'Run for Unity' in 2015 to honor Sardar Patel and to promote national unity. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the event serves as a nationwide pledge to strengthen the nation's unity and integrity. It has evolved into a commitment towards a developed India, envisioned to be achieved by 2047.
Addressing the assembly, Shah emphasized India's progress as a robust and thriving nation on the world stage, attributing it to Sardar Patel's decisive integration of over 550 princely states post-independence. Despite his crucial contributions being historically overlooked, Patel's legacy has been reignited by PM Modi, who erected the world's tallest statue in Patel's honor in Kevadia, Gujarat. Shah urged the younger generation to embrace Patel's ideals and contribute to India's unity and development.
