For the first time, India will host the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Bocce & Bowling Competition from November 18 to 23, welcoming over 250 athletes from 15 countries, representing a significant international event for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Shivani, who triumphed with three gold medals at last year's Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, steps into the role of athlete ambassador, embodying the spirit of inclusion and hope. She expressed her pride in representing Special Olympics Bharat, emphasizing the transformative power of sports in her life and aiming to inspire others towards empowerment and determination.
The competition will concentrate on athletes aged 22 and above with intellectual and developmental disabilities, featuring singles, doubles, mixed, and team events. As part of the lead-up, activities like a 'Run for Inclusion' and a health summit are planned to bolster awareness and camaraderie around inclusion.
