Joshua Cheptegei, the Ugandan long-distance running sensation, clinched his first international title in the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, dominating the men's elite race on a 21.097km course. The event marks a significant milestone in Cheptegei's career after transitioning from track events.
At 28, Cheptegei impressively completed the half marathon in 59 minutes 46 seconds. He edged out Kenyan rivals Alex Matata, who clocked 59:53, and Nicholas Kipkorir, finishing with a time of 59:59. Cheptegei's tactical prowess saw him overtake Matata in the final kilometer, sealing his victory.
Despite facing initial challenges, including poor air quality, Cheptegei kept his pace strong, highlighting his adaptability in diverse conditions. This victory reaffirms his dominance as a long-distance runner and sets the stage for future successes in road racing.
