Patton Kizzire embraced an unconventional mental approach on the way to the first tee Friday, hugging a tree as part of his routine. This newfound mental composure helped Kizzire navigate Silverado efficiently, taking the lead heading into the weekend of the FedEx Cup Fall series opener.
Collaborating with a new mental coach, Kizzire has adopted a more relaxed and balanced mindset. His concerted effort paid off as he shot a 7-under 65, earning a one-stroke lead over David Lipsky in the Procore Championship.
Despite joking about the quirky tasks his coach assigns, like walking barefoot and hugging trees, Kizzire finds them beneficial. "It's been really cool to just get organized and try to be more playful out there and be unflappable," Kizzire said.
