Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been formally charged by the Football Association after making a racist remark about South Korean people during a televised appearance. The controversial comment was made while discussing teammate Son Heung-min.
In June, Bentancur issued an apology after his remarks drew widespread criticism. Son Heung-min accepted the apology, stating, 'Lolo would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive. We are brothers and nothing has changed at all.'
The Football Association stated that Bentancur's comments constituted an 'aggravated breach' due to the reference to nationality, race, or ethnic origin. Bentancur has until September 19 to formally respond to the charge.
