Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologize for not only the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Sindhudurg district but also for the implementation of demonetisation, anti-farmer bills, and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Addressing a public meeting, Gandhi demanded that Modi take responsibility for the statue's downfall and corruption involved, adding that all contracts seem to be awarded to Adani and Ambani. He noted that the prime minister has not apologized for anti-farmer laws, which were withdrawn following protests, or for the effects of demonetisation and GST.
Gandhi also pointed out Modi's lack of action in Manipur amid a civil unrest situation, stating that businesses are suffering for the benefit of a select few. The Congress leader reiterated the need for a caste census and criticized the BJP's approach to maintaining caste structures and dominating institutions. Gandhi cited the dedication of late Congress leader Patangrao Kadam as an example of genuine effort for the public good.
