Rahul Gandhi on Thursday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologize to Maharashtrians for the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Sindhudurg district. He also called for apologies over demonetisation, anti-farmer bills, and GST.
Speaking at a public meeting after inaugurating a statue of late party leader Patangrao Kadam, Gandhi questioned if the prime minister was sorry because the contract for the statue was given to an RSS affiliate without merit or due to corruption.
Gandhi criticized Modi for only favoring Adani and Ambani and running the government for their benefit. He stressed the importance of Congress ideology in Maharashtra and spoke about the state's progressive heritage. Prominent Congress and NCP leaders attended the event, though Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray was absent.
