Supreme Court Stays Gujarat HC's Rejection of Newspapers' Apology for 'Wrong Reporting'
The Supreme Court has stayed an order by the Gujarat High Court rejecting 'The Times of India's' apology for misreporting a hearing. The high court had demanded public apologies from several newspapers, but the affidavits were deemed unsatisfactory. This decision halts contempt proceedings while allowing the main petition to continue.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday halted an order from the Gujarat High Court that had rejected an apology affidavit from 'The Times of India' over erroneous reporting on a court hearing.
On September 2, the high court had directed 'The Times of India' and two other newspapers to publish bold front-page apologies for their 'wrong reporting' on an August 13 hearing.
'The affidavits from the editors of 'Indian Express', 'The Times of India', and 'Divya Bhaskar' were not satisfactory to the court and were rejected,' the high court noted. The Supreme Court, led by Justice B R Gavai, has now suspended this order and the accompanying contempt proceedings, but stated that the main petition will proceed as per legal processes.
