Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has made a notable return to the Indian test team after a two-year absence, following a near-fatal car crash in December 2022 that necessitated multiple surgeries. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed a 16-member squad for the first of two tests against Bangladesh.

This long-awaited comeback marks Pant's first test appearance since the accident, which also happened during a series against Bangladesh nearly two years ago. The squad also sees the inclusion of wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel and uncapped left-arm seamer Yash Dayal.

The two-test series heralds the start of India's home season for 2024-25, with the initial test set in Chennai on September 19 and the second in Kanpur on September 27. India will additionally contest three T20 matches against Bangladesh with the announced squad.
