Jack Draper’s Historic U.S. Open Semi-Final Berth
Jack Draper overcame 10th seed Alex de Minaur to reach the U.S. Open semi-finals, marking the first time a British man has achieved this since Andy Murray in 2012. Draper now faces either Jannik Sinner or Daniil Medvedev, bolstering hopes of a major British men's title.
Jack Draper defeated 10th seed Alex de Minaur in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2, on Wednesday to advance to his first Grand Slam semi-final at the U.S. Open. This victory revives British hopes for a men's major singles title, last won by Andy Murray at Wimbledon in 2016.
Draper, seeded 25th, is the first British man to reach the U.S. Open semi-finals since Murray in 2012 and the first Briton to make it to the last four of a Grand Slam since Cameron Norrie at Wimbledon in 2022. Draper faced his biggest challenge against the Australian de Minaur, who had triumphed in their previous three encounters.
Despite a hip injury hampering de Minaur, the 22-year-old Draper cruised to a decisive win in just over two hours. He now awaits the winner between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev for his semi-final match. "I think I played a solid match," Draper said. "I feel the best fitness-wise I've been in a long time."
