Jack Draper Makes History as First British U.S. Open Semi-finalist Since 2012
Jack Draper, the 25th seed, defeated Alex de Minaur to become the first British man to reach the U.S. Open semi-finals since 2012. Draper won 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 against the 10th seed, overcoming his toughest challenge. He now faces Jannik Sinner or Daniil Medvedev in the next round.
Britain's Jack Draper bested 10th seed Alex de Minaur with a 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 victory on Wednesday in the U.S. Open quarter-finals, marking his first advance to a Grand Slam semi-final. Draper, the 25th seed, is the first British man to achieve this feat at the U.S. Open since Andy Murray's landmark semi-final run in 2012. Moreover, he is the first Briton since Cameron Norrie at Wimbledon in 2022 to reach the last four in a Grand Slam.
Previously, Draper enjoyed a flawless run at Flushing Meadows, dispatching unseeded opponents without losing a single set. However, his quarter-final match against the Australian De Minaur posed a new level of difficulty, given De Minaur's three prior victories over him in past meetings. Despite this, the 22-year-old Draper handled the match with composure, capitalizing on a possible hip injury afflicting De Minaur to secure a win in just over two hours.
Looking ahead, Draper will take on either Jannik Sinner or Daniil Medvedev in what promises to be a compelling semi-final showdown.
