Libya's first international match in Tripoli in over a decade ended in a 1-1 draw against Rwanda. Despite an early lead by Sobi Al Dawi, Innocent Nshuti's equalizer dampened the celebratory atmosphere. The refurbished stadium saw less than half capacity, with fans expressing discontent at the final whistle.
Libya marked their return to international football in Tripoli with a 1-1 draw against Rwanda in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This was Libya's first international match in their capital since August 2013.
Sobi Al Dawi gave the home team an early lead in the first half, but Rwanda's Innocent Nshuti equalized in the 51st minute, spoiling Libya's chance for a celebratory victory. The refurbished 45,000-seat stadium, a former stronghold, was only half full, and fans expressed their displeasure at the end of the game.
Other matches on the opening day saw Sudan claim a 1-0 victory over Niger. The qualifiers continue with more matches, including games for past African champions Algeria, Ghana, and Tunisia.
