Para-archer Harvinder Singh made history by securing a gold medal for India at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. He defeated Poland's Lukasz Ciszek in the individual recurve para-archery final, winning 6-0. This victory marks India's first-ever medal in the sport across both the Olympics and Paralympics.

Singh also won a bronze medal in recurve para-archery at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020, marking his second successive podium finish. With this victory, the Indian contingent has now amassed 22 medals, including four gold, eight silver, and ten bronze, enhancing their record medal haul in a single Paralympics edition. India currently stands 15th in the medal tally with potential for more victories ahead.

In the previous Tokyo edition held from August 24 to September 5, 2021, India achieved its best-ever medal tally of 19, consisting of five gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals. Additionally, para-athlete Sachin Khilari won a silver medal in the men's shot put F46 final at the Paris Paralympics with a 16.32-metre throw, setting an area best record. Unfortunately, he missed the gold by a mere 0.6 meters.

On Monday and Tuesday, the Indian contingent added 13 more medals to their tally, bringing the count to a historic 20, including three gold, seven silver, and ten bronze medals. (ANI)
