Serena Williams set Flushing Meadows abuzz on Saturday as the 23-time major winner appeared at the U.S. Open as a fan for the first time since stepping away from tennis two years ago. The six-time winner dominated New York throughout her career and made an emotional exit in 2022 after her final match against Ajla Tomljanovic.

The competitive tension was absent as Williams walked the blue carpet in a denim ensemble, smiling and flashing peace signs for the cameras. "She's always been an upbeat and happy person," said Caroline Wozniacki, Williams' longtime friend.

Williams was seen chatting with world number one Iga Swiatek in the players' gym ahead of Swiatek's match, which she won. The American also watched matches involving Italian Jannik Sinner and American Jessica Pegula. Wozniacki, who had Williams as her bridesmaid, noted, "Serena is obviously still very busy. I love the support I get from her."
