Mercedes has signed 18-year-old Italian driver Kimi Antonelli to replace Lewis Hamilton in their Formula One team for the next season, the team announced on Saturday.

Antonelli, who celebrated victories in both a sprint and a feature race for Prema Racing in Formula Two this year, will join George Russell at Mercedes as Hamilton makes his move to Ferrari. Expressing his gratitude and excitement, Antonelli described the move as a 'dream come true' and thanked Mercedes for their support and faith.

Russell also shared his enthusiasm about partnering with Antonelli. 'Lewis has been a great support throughout my career, and I hope to offer the same to Kimi,' Russell said. Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff endorsed the new lineup, emphasizing Antonelli's talent and potential. 'Kimi has shown the necessary speed and talent to perform at the highest level. In George, he has a mentor to help him succeed,' Wolff said. Currently, Russell stands eighth in the rankings ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, while Hamilton is in sixth.
