Djokovic's third-round exit marks his worst U.S. Open performance since 2006. Recovering from a knee surgery in June, he struggled physically and emotionally, particularly after winning his first Olympic gold medal recently.
Alexei Popyrin capitalized on Djokovic's off-day, playing exceptionally well at the net and securing a career milestone victory. Popyrin will now face Frances Tiafoe in an attempt to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
