England's right-hand batter Harry Brook and Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan have both surged in the latest Test rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday. Joe Root remained the No.1 ranked Test batter following England's opening Test victory against Sri Lanka in Manchester. Brook jumped remarkably after scoring 56 and 32 at Old Trafford.

Harry Brook rose three places to fourth overall, moving past Pakistan's Babar Azam, Australia's Steve Smith, and India's Rohit Sharma. Babar dropped six places to ninth after a disappointing innings in Pakistan's Test against Bangladesh. Rizwan climbed seven spots to a career-high 10th following his century in the same match.

Babar Azam is now just six rating points ahead of Rizwan. Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel moved up to 13th following his century against Bangladesh. Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim reached a career-high 17th place. Sri Lanka's Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis, and England's newcomer Jamie Smith, also improved their rankings.

In the bowler rankings, India's Ravichandran Ashwin stayed at the top. Sri Lanka's Prabath Jayasuriya moved to ninth after his five-wicket haul against England. England's Chris Woakes rose to 16th, Sri Lanka's Asitha Fernando to 17th, Pakistan's Naseem Shah to 33rd, and England's Gus Atkinson to 42nd, all achieving career-best ratings.

Woakes also advanced to eighth among Test all-rounders, with India's Ravindra Jadeja leading that category.
