Indian Surfing Pioneers Shine at Asian Championships

Harish Muthu and Kishore Kumar have etched their names in history books by becoming the first Indian surfers to reach the quarterfinals of the Asian Surfing Championships. The event, a qualifier for the 2026 Asian Games, witnesses eight Indian surfers in various categories.

Despite stiff competition, Tamil Nadu's Harish Muthu finished third in the men's open category quarterfinals, scoring 6.76. Muthu had earlier posted a score of 8.43 in round three to qualify, showing remarkable consistency throughout the competition.

Kishore Kumar stood out in the U-18 category, topping Heat 2 of round three with a score of 14.33—the highest of any Indian in the championship. He will soon compete against Chinese Taipei's John Chan and Maldives' Sayyid Salahuddin in the next round.
