Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma won the Tour de France Femmes in a dramatic fashion, pushing through excruciating pain and envisioning a future of gender equality in sports.
On Sunday, Niewiadoma fended off defending champion Demi Vollering in a gripping final stage. Vollering, who started the day eighth overall, posed a significant threat but ultimately couldn't unseat Niewiadoma from the yellow jersey. Despite severe physical and mental strain, Niewiadoma regained her strength to challenge Vollering in the final kilometers.
Niewiadoma's victory was finalized by a narrow four-second margin, securing her place in cycling history. Her prize of €50,000 pales in comparison to the €500,000 awarded to men's winner Tadej Pogacar, but she remains optimistic about the future of gender equality in sports.
