Yoane Wissa's close-range finish gave Brentford a winning start to their Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday. Palace believed they were in the lead after 26 minutes with Eberechi Eze's spectacular free kick, but it was ruled out due to a foul by Will Hughes at the time of the strike.

Brentford capitalized on their chance three minutes later when Bryan Mbuemo completed a sweeping move down the right. Cutting inside, Mbuemo fired into the bottom corner, breaking the deadlock. Crystal Palace managed to level in the 56th minute when Ethan Pinnock inadvertently prodded the ball past his own goalkeeper.

However, Brentford secured the victory 20 minutes from time as Wissa scored a scrappy yet decisive goal, ensuring his team clinched the three points in their season opener.
