Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo suffered a broken ankle, confirmed by manager Nuno Espirito Santo, after the Brazilian was carried off on a stretcher just 10 minutes into their Premier League opening game against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The 23-year-old, who joined Forest from Palmeiras in 2023, fell awkwardly after colliding with Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo. The match was delayed for several minutes as Danilo received medical treatment on the pitch. Despite the setback, Forest secured a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

'It was a horrible moment for everybody; he has broken his ankle,' Nuno told British media. 'It's serious, and we are going to miss him, not only on the pitch. He is a wonderful boy, always smiling and full of joy, and we wish him the best.'

Adding further details, Nuno said, 'He is leaving the hospital now and will be assessed tomorrow. It is serious, but the good news is that he is stable. He's speaking and aware; he just needs time.' Danilo has scored six goals and provided four assists in 49 appearances for Forest.

'Danilo's injury stays in the heads of the players, but the response was good,' Nuno added. Forest's next match is an away fixture against promoted Southampton on August 24.
