Her emotional return was marked by her disqualification from the 50 kg gold medal bout due to being 100 gms overweight. Subsequently, the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed her appeal for a joint silver. She announced her retirement on August 8, a day after her disqualification.

Fans gathered in large numbers, showering her with petals. In an emotional note, Vinesh reflected on her wrestling journey, leaving a possibility for a return in the future. She wrote about her dreams growing up, her father's aspirations for her, and her mother's simple wishes for her children's independence.
