Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt has lauded Babar Azam, highlighting the right-handed batter's exemplary form and fitness over the last two years. Sources informed Geo News that Babar Azam is slated to play in the number four position for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
According to insiders, Abdullah Shafiq's spot as an opener remains secure, while team captain Shan Masood will take the number three position. Butt, on his official YouTube channel, commented, "Babar Azam has been prolific in scoring runs and proving his fitness, outperforming in both first and second innings. The team must maintain their fitness to avoid disruptions."
Butt further noted the national criticism following Pakistan's poor performance at the T20 World Cup 2024, which led junior-level players to face increased fitness demands. However, the trainers and physios were not held accountable. The upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, commencing August 21 in Rawalpindi, will be the first under new Test coach Jason Gillespie. Renovations at Karachi's National Stadium mean no spectators will be allowed for the second Test from August 30 to September 3.
