Conor Gallagher, the England midfielder, has returned to Chelsea and is currently training alone after issues arose in finalizing his transfer to Atletico Madrid.
Last Saturday, Atletico Madrid's social media platform X, formerly Twitter, posted a picture of Gallagher at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, indicating he was there to finalize his transfer for a reported fee of 33 million pounds (USD 42.5 million).
However, Gallagher has since returned to Chelsea without completing the deal, allegedly due to a collapsed agreement that would have seen Atletico's striker Samu Omorodion move in the opposite direction.
On Friday, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed Gallagher's presence in London, noting that he is "training a little bit apart" and will not participate in the team's Premier League opener against Manchester City on Sunday.
Maresca added, "He is trying to find a solution with the club. Hopefully, for Conor, this situation will end satisfactorily for all the parties involved." Gallagher was Chelsea's vice-captain last season and recently played for England in the European Championship.
