Indian hockey's goalkeeping stalwart P R Sreejesh received a grand welcome on his arrival at the international airport here, signaling the end of a glorious chapter in his sporting career. Sreejesh, who recently retired from international play, will spend the next 2-3 months mentally preparing for his new role as a coach.

Reflecting on the enthusiastic reception, which featured a roadshow from the airport to Palarivattom, Sreejesh described it as the 'cherry on top of the cake.'

'Working hard for the country and winning a medal is not just for me, but for the entire nation,' he told reporters. 'The welcome was like the cherry on top of the cake. The pleasure is doubled.'

Large crowds, including several MLAs, greeted Sreejesh at the airport. He held a roadshow in an open-top jeep, receiving flowers, bouquets, and personal congratulations from fans along the route. Sreejesh will now transition to coaching the junior Indian hockey team, following his stellar role in securing India's second consecutive Olympic bronze at the Paris Games.
