England cricket captain Ben Stokes was ruled out of the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday due to a torn hamstring sustained in a domestic game over the weekend.
The 33-year-old cricketer suffered the injury while batting for the Northern Superchargers in the Hundred competition on Sunday and was subsequently seen on crutches.
As a result, Stokes will miss all three tests in England's series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 21. England vice-captain Ollie Pope will assume leadership duties in Stokes' absence.
The England Cricket Board confirmed that no additional players will be added to the squad for the Sri Lanka series. Stokes is targeting a return for the winter test tour of Pakistan, with the first test scheduled for October 7 in Multan.
