England faces a challenging situation ahead of the three-test series against Sri Lanka, with all-rounder Chris Woakes withdrawing from The Hundred due to injury. This setback comes on the heels of captain Ben Stokes being helped off the pitch on Sunday with a suspected hamstring issue.

Woakes, 35, who has been named in England's test squad, was also expected to play for Birmingham Phoenix in the 100-ball tournament. His withdrawal was confirmed by the Phoenix on Instagram.

With both senior players potentially out, the depth of England's squad will be severely tested as they prepare for the series opener on August 21 at Old Trafford.
