Olympic Official Under Scrutiny: UIPM Treasurer John Helmick Exits Amid Investigation

John Helmick, treasurer of the body overseeing modern pentathlon, has departed from the Paris Olympics following a disciplinary investigation into alleged credentials irregularities.

The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) confirmed on Friday that Helmick would be subject to a disciplinary panel review. Details regarding the nature of the irregularities or the timeline for a decision remain undisclosed.

The announcement coincided with the commencement of men's modern pentathlon semifinals at the historic Palace of Versailles. In a statement, UIPM emphasized its commitment to integrity and confirmed that Helmick has surrendered his Paris 2024 accreditation pending the investigation.

It stressed the importance of a fair process free from speculation. With a legacy dating back to 1993 at UIPM, Helmick brought extensive expertise in sponsor relations and event hospitality. His father, Robert Helmick, held influential positions in the U.S. Olympic Committee and other sports governing bodies.
