Mathias Boe, the coach behind the success of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, has retired from coaching after the Indian badminton pair's exit from the Paris Olympics. The duo, who were tipped as medal hopefuls, suffered a defeat to Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the quarterfinals.
Boe, a former silver medallist at the London Olympics, joined the Indian team ahead of the Tokyo Games. He expressed his decision to step down from the coaching role in a heartfelt Instagram post, citing the stress and fatigue of the profession.
Under Boe's mentorship, Shetty and Rankireddy made history by becoming the first Indian doubles team to achieve the world No. 1 rank. They amassed several prestigious titles, including the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold and victories in the BWF World Tour. Despite the disappointment in Paris, Boe expressed immense pride in their achievements and hard work.
