West Indies have revealed their squad for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship clash against South Africa, slated to begin on August 7. Pacer Kemar Roach makes his return to the lineup, having last played a Test against Australia earlier this year. He was previously withdrawn from the England tour due to a knee injury sustained during the County Championship.
Meanwhile, pacer Alzarri Joseph, the vice-captain of the Test side, has been rested to manage his workload. Off-spinner Kevin Sinclair also missed out as he continues his recovery from an injury. 'We have decided to rest our vice-captain Alzarri Joseph for this series. Alzarri has had a considerable workload recently, and this break will allow him to recuperate and return to peak performance,' head coach Andre Coley stated in an ICC release.
The squad bears a striking resemblance to the one that competed in the recent Test series in England, with Keacy Carty and Bryan Charles being the only uncapped players. Wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva steps in as vice-captain in Joseph's absence. With only one win in this WTC cycle, West Indies turned heads by defeating Australia in their backyard, a victory highlighted by Shamar Joseph's mesmerizing seven-wicket haul at the Gabba.
