Thiago Almada scored a brilliant solo goal, leading Argentina to a 2-0 victory over Ukraine and advancing to the Olympic men's soccer quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Two minutes into the second half in Lyon, Almada's strike set Argentina on course for the knockout stage. Claudio Echeverri sealed the triumph in the 91st minute.
Morocco also moved forward by defeating Iraq 3-0 in Nice.
Egypt advanced to the quarterfinals atop its group by defeating Spain 2-1 in Bordeaux, courtesy of Ibrahim Adel's twin goals. Spain aimed for a first-place finish in Group C but was leapfrogged by Egypt. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic tied with Uzbekistan 1-1, which wasn't enough to progress.
