The Paris 2024 Olympics have set a new benchmark in ticket sales, with organizers announcing that 9.7 million tickets have been sold or allocated. This figure surpasses the previous record held by Atlanta in 1996, which sold 8.3 million tickets.

Of the total tickets sold, 8.7 million were for the Olympic events, while one million were for the Paralympic Games. A total of 10 million tickets were made available for the Paris Olympics, thus indicating that despite the record-breaking popularity, there are still tickets left for some of the 45 sports.

"There's a real buzz in the city, and it's the first Games I've been to," said Carmen Rivera, a 29-year-old from Madrid. "I'm not surprised it's the most popular one ever, as there has been the pandemic and other things that impacted the other recent ones."

Starting in April, organizers distributed around one million free tickets to local young people, amateur athletes, people with disabilities, and others, aiming to broaden access to the Games following criticism over high ticket prices.
