Sanjay Kapoor Elected FIDE India Zone President

Kapoor will serve as president for four years, focusing on the growth and development of chess in India and worldwide.
Former All India Chess Federation chief Sanjay Kapoor has been unanimously elected as the president of the FIDE India Zone, according to an announcement made during the Annual General Meeting of AICF in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Kapoor's election as zone president marks a pivotal moment for chess governance in India, as he will now oversee the game's growth and development globally.
''It is an immense honour to be elected as the FIDE India Zone President. I am committed to the growth of chess in every corner of our country and ensuring that we produce Grandmasters from each and every state,'' Kapoor stated. He also emphasized his excitement about working towards a bright future for chess in India and internationally, drawing from his experience with the 44th Chess Olympiad held in India.
On International Chess Day last week, FIDE launched a Guinness World Record attempt for the most games played online and over-the-board in 24 hours, involving over 109 national federations and major online chess platforms, resulting in almost 350 global events.
FIDE officials, including president Arkady Dvorkovich and former world champions like Viswanathan Anand, met in Paris to celebrate 100 years since the founding of FIDE.
