World number one Jannik Sinner has announced his withdrawal from the Paris Olympic Games citing tonsillitis, marking a setback for Italy's tennis medal prospects. Sinner, who clinched his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open and made it to the French Open semi-finals, expressed his disappointment over missing the event.

In a post on X, Sinner revealed he began feeling unwell following a week of clay training and was diagnosed with tonsillitis. Advised by his doctor, he opted to withdraw. Sinner was poised to compete in both singles and men's doubles, alongside Lorenzo Musetti, and will now be replaced by Andrea Vavassori.

This withdrawal makes Novak Djokovic the top seed in the men's singles draw. Sinner joins a list of notable players, including Marketa Vondrousova and Hubert Hurkacz, who have also pulled out. The Olympic tennis tournament is scheduled from July 27 to August 4 at Roland Garros.
