Tiger Woods faced significant difficulties during his opening round at the British Open on Thursday, finishing with an eight-over-par 79. The Royal Troon course proved challenging for the three-time winner.

Woods, who recorded six bogeys, two double bogeys, and two birdies, attributed his poor performance to reduced playing time following his 2021 car crash. 'As the year has gone on, I have gotten better. I just wish I could have played a little bit more, but I've been saving it for the majors,' said Woods.

Despite starting strong with a long birdie putt on the third hole, Woods' round quickly deteriorated. He bogeyed the par-five fourth, landed in a bunker en route to a double bogey at the fifth, and stacked up further bogeys on the front and back nine. 'I didn't do a whole lot of things right today,' Woods admitted. He aims to shoot in the mid-60s in the next round to improve his chances for the weekend.
