In a significant development, Australia's national selector George Bailey has confirmed that David Warner will not be considered for next year's ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan. Warner's staggered retirement from international cricket culminated with his departure from the Test format in December 2023 following Australia's series against Pakistan.

Warner had earlier retired from the 50-over format after Australia's sixth ODI World Cup win in India last year. His final appearance in the international circuit came last month when Australia exited the T20 World Cup in the Super 8 stage.

Despite Warner hinting at a possible return in a recent Instagram post, Bailey clarified that the Australian management is looking towards the future without him. 'David is retired, and [he] should be commended on what has been an incredible career across all three formats. Our planning is that he won't be in Pakistan,' Bailey told ESPNcricinfo.

Warner's illustrious career has left an indelible mark on Australian cricket, with Bailey praising his contributions. He also discussed the team's future direction, emphasizing the opportunity to integrate new talent into the setup. 'It didn't feel like we needed to completely rip it apart and start from scratch, but it's also a great opportunity to start to explore some other guys,' Bailey added.

Looking ahead, Mitchell Marsh, who led the team during the T20 World Cup, will continue as captain for the upcoming tour of Scotland and England, while Pat Cummins will be rested. 'I loved the way he captained through the T20 World Cup,' Bailey said, reflecting on Marsh's leadership.
