Argentina and Colombia have raised safety concerns ahead of Sunday's Copa America final, days after an altercation involving Uruguay's Darwin Núñez in the stands after a semifinal defeat to Colombia.

Speaking through an interpreter at a Saturday news conference, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said, "I'm concerned about what could happen tomorrow," as his team prepares to compete for a record 16th Copa America title against Colombia.

The incident occurred Wednesday night shortly after referee César Ramos ended the match with a whistle. Núñez and several teammates entered the crowd to protect their families, leading to a 10-minute delay for police intervention.

Uruguay captain José Giménez defended their actions, while coach Marcelo Bielsa criticized the tournament organizers for inadequate security measures. Colombian midfielder Juan Quintero also lamented the incident, noting that high emotions should not result in violence.

Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez echoed Scaloni's concerns, calling for reinforced security during the final. In response, South American soccer's governing body, CONMEBOL, condemned the violence but did not outline specific security updates.

The final, expected to attract over 65,000 passionate fans, will mark the 44th meeting between Argentina and Colombia. Ticket prices have soared to thousands of dollars.

Scaloni stressed that the event should be a celebration while urging respect among fans. He highlighted the difficulty of maintaining composure when players' families are in potential danger.
