In a landmark decision, the Union Cabinet has approved the implementation of the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV), aimed at enhancing rural connectivity.

The project, spanning the financial years 2024-25 to 2028-29, will involve the construction of 62,500 km of all-weather roads to connect 25,000 unconnected habitations. The total budget allocated for this phase is Rs 70,125 crore, with the central government contributing Rs 49,087.50 crore and the state governments Rs 21,037.50 crore.

The improved infrastructure is expected to catalyse socio-economic development in remote areas, with a notable side benefit of creating 40 crore human days of employment. The scheme incorporates best practices such as cold mix technology and the use of construction waste. Planning will be conducted using the PM Gati Shakti portal to ensure efficient project execution.
