In a historic move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei on Wednesday to discuss a broad spectrum of issues aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. Their discussion focused on expanding trade, commercial connections, and people-to-people exchanges.

Marking his first bilateral visit to Brunei, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received at the Istana Nurul Iman, the official residence of the Sultan. This visit is seen as a pivotal moment in the four-decade-long diplomatic relationship between the two nations.

Recognized as a critical partner in India's 'Act East' Policy and its Indo-Pacific vision, Brunei shares historical, cultural, and traditional ties with India that span a millennium. During his visit, Modi also interacted with the Indian diaspora and inaugurated the new chancery premises of the High Commission of India.
