Five-year-old Millie the sloth bear is winning hearts at the Wildlife SOS-Bannerghatta Bear Rescue Centre in Bengaluru with her endearing antics. While she may not match the Panda's universal appeal, her playful behavior is equally captivating.
Millie recently celebrated her third 'rescue anniversary' on September 7, as part of the 60 sloth bears saved by the center. Her rescue story is particularly poignant; forest officials spotted her limping in Tumakuru district, having narrowly escaped a snare intended for her.
Under the care of BBRC, Millie became the first bear in India to receive a skin graft, utilizing tilapia fish skin to treat her severe injuries. Her case underscores ongoing threats to wildlife, even after the official ban on 'dancing bears' in 2009, highlighting the urgent need for continued vigilance against inhumane trapping methods.
