Authorities have dismissed villagers' claims about a crack in the Masalga dam embankment in Latur's Nilanga tehsil, stating the fears of a breach are unfounded. Photos depicting a crack had circulated online, causing concern about potential flooding in nearby areas.

In a statement released on Monday, Masalga project executive engineer Amarsinha Patil confirmed that a technical inspection is underway and assured that the dam structure is not in danger. As a precaution, six gates were opened by 10 centimeters on Friday to lower the water storage level.

The release emphasized that the water being released is minimal and poses no risk to local villages. The dam's total storage capacity is 14.676 TMC with an irrigation area covering 1,664 hectares. Residents were advised not to believe in false information, and precautionary warnings have been issued to ensure safety.
