Persistent heavy rain in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district has necessitated the opening of four gates of the Bisalpur dam, a crucial water source for several districts. The gates were opened on Friday following a series of prayers conducted by Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed joy and pride, noting that this is the first time in 26 years that the dam gates have been opened in September. He emphasized the cultural significance of the traditional rituals accompanying the opening and the positive impact of the water release on agriculture, industry, and drinking water supply.

According to Tonk District Collector Dr. Saumya Jha, the Bisalpur Dam is the main source of drinking water for the Jaipur, Ajmer, and Tonk districts. The dam's gates were opened in stages throughout the day, with water inflow reaching sufficient levels. With the continuation of monsoon rains predicted over the next few days, the heavy rainfall in Bhilwara topped 105 mm in Shahpura in 24 hours.
