According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Madhya Pradesh has experienced 904.9 millimetres of rainfall from June 1 to September 5, which is 10 per cent more than the state's annual monsoon average.

Typically, the state receives 823.9 mm of rainfall during this period. IMD's Bhopal Centre meteorologist V S Yadav on Thursday provided these insights, highlighting that the state's normal rainfall from June 1 to September 30 is 949 mm, with 1043.4 mm for east MP and 877.3 mm for west MP.

East MP reported 953.9 mm of rainfall against its normal 823.9 mm, indicating a 6 per cent increase. Meanwhile, west MP registered 867.2 mm of rainfall, surpassing its normal of 766.4 mm by 13 per cent. Sheopur district led with 1087.7 mm of rainfall against its normal 600.5 mm, marking an 81 per cent rise. Conversely, Rewa district received only 572.6 mm of rain, falling 31 per cent short of its normal 823.3 mm.

The south-west monsoon arrived in Madhya Pradesh on June 21, slightly delayed by three days, with Balaghat district in the eastern part receiving the first monsoon showers.
