The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Sunday that a well-marked low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has evolved into a depression.

According to an IMD bulletin, the depression is situated approximately 310 km east of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 260 km east-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha, 290 km south-southeast of Paradip in Odisha, and 410 km south of Digha in West Bengal.

The weather system is forecasted to move towards the north Odisha-West Bengal coasts and strengthen into a deep depression within the next 24 hours. Subsequently, it is expected to traverse north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and adjoining north Chhattisgarh over the following two days.

The IMD has issued an 'Orange' warning for heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput districts of Odisha. A 'Yellow' warning has also been issued for potential heavy rain in Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur districts.

Rain is forecasted for most parts of the state on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Due to the depression, squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, is likely to affect the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal, along with the Odisha coast, from September 8 to 11. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into these areas during this time.
