A 74-year-old man was fatally trampled by a herd of elephants in Parvatipuram-Manyam district on Monday after ignoring forest department warnings.

Forest officer GAP Prasuna reported that Sivu Naidu ventured close to the elephants to pluck coconuts, despite the warnings. The elephants, including a newly born calf, felt threatened and attacked.

The Forest Department had been cautioning locals for the past three days about the presence of six elephants in the banana plantation. Compensation of Rs 10 lakh will be given to Naidu's family.
