The Met office has forecast heavy rainfall across most of West Bengal until August 26, citing a low-pressure area over north Bengal and an active monsoon as key factors.

Intense rainfall is expected primarily in South Bengal districts during this period, according to Met officials.

The low-pressure system, expected to move toward Jharkhand within a day, is likely to bring substantial rain to South and North 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Bankura, East and West Bardhaman, Purulia, and Birbhum from August 23 to 26.

Additionally, several districts in north Bengal, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri, will see heavy rain until August 26, according to weather officials.

Recent data showed that Asansol recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 64 mm in the past 24 hours, followed by Barrackpore with 62 mm. Other significant rainfall was observed in Dum Dum (48 mm), Medinipur (45 mm), Bankura (37 mm), and Kolkata (21 mm).
